I want to see Ghana football grow now – Andre Ayew

Former Ghana captain Andre Ayew says his priority is to see Ghana football develop, insisting he is ready to support anyone who can drive the game forward rather than focus on holding a leadership position himself.

The 36-year-old made the remarks during an appearance on the Obi One Podcast in Accra, where he reflected on his long-term commitment to the country’s football and his desire to contribute to its progress beyond his playing career.

Ayew, one of Ghana’s most decorated footballers, said the sport’s collective growth mattered more than individual ambition.

“What I want is for our football to grow. Whoever will make Ghana football grow, I will support that person. I want to make things happen, and so do my colleagues,” he said.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions about the future direction of Ghana football, with increasing calls for experienced former players to become more involved in the administration and development of the game.

Ayew did not explicitly state whether he intends to pursue an official role within the Ghana Football Association (GFA) or another football institution in the future. However, his remarks suggest he is open to contributing to initiatives aimed at improving the sport.

The former Black Stars captain, who remains the country’s most capped player, has enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades, representing clubs across France, England, Turkey and the Middle East while becoming one of Ghana’s most-capped players.

During his time with the national team, Ayew captained Ghana at major international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup, establishing himself as one of the country’s most influential football figures.
