Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of Moroccan goalkeeper Abdelwadie Mourad ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The 22-year-old joins the Porcupine Warriors to strengthen Eric Tinkler’s goalkeeping department, which already includes Aziz Dari, Ibrahim Danlad and youth team graduate Clever Obeng.

Speaking after finalising his move, Mourad expressed his excitement about joining one of Ghana’s most successful clubs.

“Who doesn’t know Asante Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana? They have a lot of trophies, and I want to be part of this club, giving my best to let the team trust me,” he said.

“I wish to be the best goalkeeper in this club. This club is ambitious to do more, so that’s why I chose this club.”

Mourad began his professional career with Moroccan top-flight side Chabab Mohammedia, progressing through the club’s youth ranks before making 14 first-team appearances.

He later moved to Albanian club Basania FC, where he spent half a season before securing his move to Ghana.

The goalkeeper makes history as the first Moroccan player to represent the two-time African champions. He has also cited Saudi Arabia and Al Hilal goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as his football idol.

Kotoko will begin their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign with an away fixture against newly promoted Debibi United.
