I did not go to Kumasi to apologize on behalf of Okatakyie Afrifa — Jerry Ahmed Shaib
The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Minority Deputy Whip, Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has officially denied reports that he apologized on behalf of media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.
He says his recent visit to Kumasi had nothing to do with issuing apologies.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Lawyer Shaib clarified that the purpose of his trip was to promote peace and unity within the party following recent incidents linked to internal elections.
According to him, the visit was in his capacity as a party leader, not as a spokesperson for any individual.
“I did not go to Kumasi to apologize on behalf of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah. I went there to see Okatakyie and Hon. Mavis Nkansah Boadu to promote unity after the recent internal election incidents,” he stated.
The MP explained that tensions after party primaries and elections can create division, and it was important for senior members to intervene early.
He added that engaging all sides is part of efforts to keep the party focused ahead of national elections.
Lawyer Shaib urged the media and party members to desist from misrepresenting his visit, noting that unity should be prioritized over speculation.
“Our focus now must be on bringing everyone together, not spreading narratives that deepen cracks,” he said.
He further called on members in the Ashanti Region to remain calm and support party structures as leadership works to resolve outstanding issues.
The Weija-Gbawe MP assured that the Minority in Parliament remains committed to a united front going into 2026.
