Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says he is satisfied with his team’s preparations for the 2026/27 season as the Porcupine Warriors continue to adapt to his methods ahead of a demanding start to the campaign.

Kotoko spent more than two weeks in Accra as part of their pre-season programme, with the South African coach using the period to assess his squad and integrate a number of new signings.

Tinkler, who took charge of the club ahead of the new season, believes the players have responded positively as they adjust to his style and expectations.

“I have been quite happy with our preparations, the players obviously getting to know me and obviously me getting to know the players better in terms of their work ethic, character and personality, and obviously what they are capable of doing on the field of play,” Tinkler told the club’s website.

The former Cape Town City manager has overseen significant changes to the squad during the off-season, with several new arrivals joining as he begins to shape the team in his image.

Tinkler said establishing his standards and ensuring players understand what he expects has been a major focus during pre-season.

“There are a lot of new faces coming into the squad, so it’s very important for them to learn what my expectations are in terms of the things I call the non-negotiables, and the players have responded extremely well.”

Kotoko’s competitive season will begin with a high-profile encounter against rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup, one of the most anticipated fixtures on the Ghanaian football calendar.

The Kumasi-based side will then turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League, opening their campaign with an away match against newly promoted Debibi United as they seek to make a strong start under their new coach.
