Chairman of the National Sports Authority’s Resource Mobilisation and Partnerships Committee, Samson Deen, says the upcoming Constituency Games can uncover talents capable of transforming Ghana’s fortunes at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and World Championships.

Speaking at a media consultative forum in Accra on Friday, Deen described the press as a key partner in promoting the nationwide initiative, which is expected to run for six months from October 2026 into 2027.

The competition will involve all 275 constituencies across Ghana and target participants aged between 15 and 35 as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots sports development.

Deen, who also serves as president of both the African Paralympic Committee and Ghana’s National Paralympic Committee, said the project aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of expanding youth participation in sport.

He said the games would provide opportunities for young people while contributing to tourism and sustainable development.

The initial edition will feature football, athletics, boxing and para sports, with an accompanying sports expo planned as part of Ghana’s 70th Independence celebrations.

Deen urged journalists to help build public confidence in the initiative through accurate and responsible reporting, arguing that credible media coverage would be vital in attracting sponsors and ensuring transparency.

NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who also serves as vice-chairman of the committee, echoed those sentiments, describing the media as essential to the success of the project.

“The Constituency Games is not an event but an evolution,” he said. “It is ideal that we change from good to better and best to a high standard level.”

Media representatives at the forum also called for the implementation of the Justice Dzamefe Report, which recommends allocating a portion of Ghana’s World Cup revenues to the National Sports Authority to support grassroots sports programmes.

The consultative forum was held to establish a coordinated national media partnership to promote the Constituency Games across communities in Ghana and internationally.
