Ghana: Public Services Paralyzed as CLOGSAG Strike Intensifies

Public administration across Ghana has reached a standstill as the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) continues its nationwide industrial action. The strike has left countless citizens stranded and frustrated as essential municipal operations cease to function.
At the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, the impact of the walkout is unmistakable. Office doors remain locked and hallways sit empty after staff members abandoned their posts. The labor dispute stems from what association leadership characterizes as an unacceptable delay in implementing previously negotiated service conditions.
The standoff persists even though the National Labour Commission issued a formal directive for employees to resume their duties and return to negotiations. CLOGSAG representatives have remained firm, asserting that they have received no official correspondence from the government since the strike notice was served. They maintain that the work stoppage will continue until their professional entitlements are secured.
The human cost of this administrative freeze is becoming increasingly apparent. Citizens visiting government offices for routine permits and documentation are being turned away without resolution. One resident attempting to secure a permit for a funeral expressed deep disappointment after finding the assembly grounds deserted.
Another individual seeking a mandatory health certificate explained that the strike has stalled their entire business timeline. Without the necessary clearance from local authorities, they are unable to complete food product registration with the Food and Drugs Authority. These stories reflect a growing wave of anxiety among the public as the impasse between the government and civil servants shows no immediate sign of resolution.
