The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured families of children injured in Thursday’s road crash on the Dzorwulu–Accra Mall stretch that the government will fully support their recovery, including bearing the cost of their medical treatment.

The assurance was given on Friday, July 31, 2026, when the Minister visited some of the injured children receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital following the collision between a school bus and a tipper truck.

Describing the incident as deeply distressing, Dr. Lartey expressed her sympathy to the victims and their families and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the children’s full recovery.

“As the Minister responsible for children’s welfare, I want to assure the families of government’s commitment and support, especially that of President John Dramani Mahama, in ensuring the full recovery of the children,” she said.

She further stressed that the affected families would not be required to shoulder the financial cost of the children’s medical care.

“The families will not be burdened with the cost of the children’s medical treatment, allowing them to concentrate on providing the emotional care and support their children need,” the Minister added.

Dr. Lartey noted that investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing and expressed confidence that the relevant authorities would establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and ensure accountability where necessary.

She also disclosed that she would visit the remaining injured children receiving treatment at other health facilities to extend the government’s support and monitor their condition.

The crash, which occurred on Thursday, involved a school bus and a tipper truck on the Dzorwulu–Accra Mall road in Accra. One of the children injured in the collision reportedly died in the early hours of Friday while receiving medical treatment.
