Fulham Move Closer to Signing Super Eagles Defender Nwaiwu

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Fulham have taken a significant step in their pursuit of Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu after reportedly reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Super Eagles star.

The Premier League club is eager to strengthen its backline ahead of the new season and has identified the 22-year-old centre-back as one of its top transfer targets.

While discussions with the player have progressed positively, Fulham must still convince Turkish side Trabzonspor to approve the move.

Reports indicate that Nwaiwu has agreed to a four-year contract with the London club, showing his willingness to make the switch to English football.

However, the transfer remains dependent on both clubs reaching an agreement over the transfer fee.

Trabzonspor are believed to be standing firm on their valuation of the Nigerian international and are unwilling to let him leave without receiving a substantial offer.

Fulham have already submitted multiple bids, but the Turkish club has rejected them, prompting expectations that another improved proposal could arrive soon.

Nwaiwu joined Trabzonspor from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC earlier this year and quickly established himself as one of the team’s standout performers.

His impressive displays in the Turkish Super Lig attracted attention from several clubs across Europe.

During the second half of last season, the defender made 21 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals and one assist.

His strong aerial ability, composure on the ball and defensive awareness have earned him widespread praise.

Fulham believe Nwaiwu possesses the quality and potential to become a key player in their squad for years to come. Negotiations between both clubs are expected to continue as the Premier League side pushes to finalise the transfer before the new campaign begins.
