The Kenya National Congress (KNC) party founder Onesmus Musyoka Mbali is dead.

His daughter Jackie Musyoka confirmed that Mbali rested on Saturday at 5pm while undergoing treatment.

“Yes, my father is no more,” Ms Musyoka told the Nation.Africa.

Mzee Mbali played a role in the fight for the nation’s second liberation.

Mzee Mbali and other Kenyans of goodwill fought against autocracy which saw the rebirth of the multiparty system and the eventual founding of KNC.

“On behalf of the KNC family, my family and my behalf, I send deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives of  Mzee Mbali,” the Party leader Manson Nyamweya said.

He added, “May the Almighty God grant each one of us grace and fortitude as we mourn and come to terms with the death of an icon.”

Mzee Mbali and others founded KNC in 1991.

Under his stewardship, the party championed the formation of a substantive Office of the Registrar of Political Parties from the Registrar of Societies, Political Parties Liaison Committee, and CMD-K to entrench a multiparty system in Kenya.

He retired as KNC Party chairman on July 17, 2020, during the Party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Sagret hotel Nairobi, where Mr Nyamweya was elected the party leader.

The party Secretary General Mr Ben Gesore said Mzee Mbali started and nurtured the outfit, to what it is today.

“We owe him a huge debt of gratitude and we will always remember what he did for the party and the growth of the party. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” said Mr Gesore.
