A fire swept through part of the girls’ dormitory at Wa Islamic Senior High School on Sunday evening, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Firefighters were deployed to the school to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to adjoining sections of the dormitory.

The cause of the fire, as well as the extent of the damage and any possible casualties, had not been confirmed as of Monday, August 3, with the GNFS yet to provide an updated situational report.

“A raging fire at the girls’ dormitory of Wa Islamic Senior High School. Two fire tenders are currently at the scene working hard to contain the fire from spreading to other parts of the girls’ dormitory,” the GNFS said in an operational update issued on Sunday, August 2.

The Service said the fire had affected one of the dormitory blocks and firefighters intensified efforts to keep the flames from reaching adjoining buildings.

“As it stands now, the fire involves one of the houses of the girls’ dormitory while firefighters are working hard to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining house,” the update added.
