“‘Enzo Is a Chelsea Player’ – Alonso Shuts Down Fernandez Exit Talk

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has moved to quell speculation surrounding Enzo Fernandez’s future at Stamford Bridge, insisting the club remains fully committed to the midfielder despite continued transfer rumors.

The Argentine international has been the subject of persistent links to Manchester City, who are reportedly eyeing him as a potential midfield reinforcement.

However, Chelsea have made their stance clear, informing Fernandez’s representatives that he is not for sale this summer, particularly after the 14 August deadline for formal offers passed without City tabling a bid.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League season opener against Fulham, Alonso addressed the situation directly, dismissing any suggestion that Fernandez’s future lies elsewhere.

“Enzo is a Chelsea player. We are happy with him and he’s getting ready for Monday,” the Spanish coach stated, according to BBC Sport.

Alonso went further in praising Fernandez’s mentality since his return to the squad following international duty at the World Cup, describing his reintegration and training performances in glowing terms.

He highlighted the midfielder’s positive attitude as exactly what the club values from its players.

Despite Manchester City’s continued interest as they look to bolster their own midfield options, Chelsea’s current position leaves little room for negotiation, at least for now.

Fernandez’s pre-season has been something of a mixed bag in terms of fan reception, though the club demonstrated its faith in him by naming him captain during a recent friendly victory over Real Sociedad.

With the transfer window set to close on 1 September, questions over Fernandez’s long-term future may persist, but Alonso’s comments strongly suggest the Argentine remains central to Chelsea’s plans going forward.
