England Beat Mexico 3-2 to Reach World Cup Quarter-finals
England booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after edging Mexico 3-2 in a dramatic last-16 clash played on Monday.
Jude Bellingham was the star of the first half, scoring twice in quick succession to hand the Three Lions a commanding lead.
The midfielder opened the scoring in the 36th minute after being set up by Bukayo Saka before doubling England’s advantage just two minutes later from a Harry Kane assist.
Mexico responded before the break through Julián Quiñones, who pulled a goal back in the 42nd minute to keep his side in contention heading into the second half.
Harry Kane restored England’s two-goal cushion from the penalty spot on the hour mark after a foul inside the area.
However, the game took another twist when defender Jarell Quansah was shown a straight red card in the 54th minute for a serious foul, forcing England to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
Mexico were handed a lifeline after Raúl Jiménez converted a penalty in the 69th minute to reduce the deficit to 3-2. Despite piling on pressure in the closing stages, Mexico were unable to find an equaliser as England’s defence stood firm.
England also survived several tense moments, including a shot that struck the woodwork and a series of late attacks from the Mexican side.
The victory sends England into the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway after the Scandinavian side stunned Brazil 2-1 in another last-16 encounter.
England will hope to build on their resilience as they continue their pursuit of a second World Cup title.
