The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, over an alleged sextortion scheme in which he reportedly blackmailed an Indian woman into paying him $1,100 after secretly recording her nude during a purported spiritual exercise.

The anti-graft agency disclosed that the suspect was apprehended in Ekpoma, Edo State, following investigations into the alleged cyber-enabled extortion.

According to the EFCC, Moses allegedly posed on Zelle as a spiritual healer with purported supernatural powers and attracted the victim, who sought his assistance over what she believed were life-threatening challenges.

The commission said the suspect allegedly persuaded the woman to undergo a naked “spiritual bath” as part of the supposed healing process and secretly recorded the session without her consent.

The EFCC alleged that Moses subsequently threatened to publish the explicit video online unless the victim paid him money.

Investigations by the commission revealed that the victim eventually transferred $1,100 to the suspect in an attempt to prevent the release of the video.

The commission described the incident as a case of sextortion involving deception, intimidation and cyber-enabled blackmail.

The EFCC said the suspect remains in its custody and would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
