The ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council (MSC) at Ambassadorial Level and the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) have held a Joint Consultative Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, to strengthen cooperation on peace support operations across Africa.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, June 30, was convened under the theme, “Deepening Regional Collaboration Towards Attaining More Effective Financing for Peace Support Operations in Africa.”

According to a news release issued on Friday, July 3, the engagement seeks to enhance coordination and policy coherence between the AU Peace and Security Council and the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council in line with the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and the African Governance Architecture (AGA).

The meeting brought together members of the AU Peace and Security Council, Permanent Representatives Committee members of ECOWAS, and technical experts from both organisations.

It forms part of ongoing efforts by the two regional bodies to deepen strategic collaboration in promoting sustainable peace, security and stability across the African continent.
