The National Peace Council (NPC) has praised the people of Dagbon for the peaceful, dignified and impeccably coordinated funeral rites of the late Ndan Yaa Naa Abukari II and the smooth enskinment of the Regent of Dagbon.

In its July 31 statement, the Council said the events reflected Dagbon’s resilience, unity and unwavering commitment to peace, noting that the late Yaa Naa’s reign was defined by wisdom, humility and reconciliation.

The NPC highlighted that the orderly observance of the First and Second Bɔglilɔgbu and the seamless installation of the Regent demonstrated the enduring strength of Dagbon’s traditional institutions and the people’s collective resolve to uphold peace through custom, dialogue and shared responsibility.

The Council expressed appreciation to the Government, Interior Ministry, National and Regional Security Councils, the Police Service, Armed Forces, Fire Service, Ambulance Service and other agencies for their professionalism and effective coordination throughout the ceremonies.

It also acknowledged the contributions of the clergy, Muslim community, women, youth groups, civil society organisations, development partners, volunteers, the media and the general public whose responsible conduct ensured a successful funeral process.

The NPC urged the media and public to verify information before sharing and reject inflammatory content capable of undermining peace.

As Dagbon enters the regency phase, the Council called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, women, youth and all sons and daughters of Dagbon to support the Regent and preserve the late Yaa Naa’s legacy through dialogue, tolerance and peaceful dispute resolution.

It reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Dagbon Traditional Council and other stakeholders to consolidate peacebuilding gains and encouraged adherence to the Dagbon Constitution and customary roadmap to ensure an inclusive and peaceful selection of the next Yaa Naa.

The statement, signed by NPC Board Chairman Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, ended with prayers for the eternal rest of the late Yaa Naa and wisdom and strength for the Regent as he leads the kingdom through its transition.
