The Court of Appeal is expected to rule today, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, on the Attorney-General’s application seeking a stay of execution of its decision acquitting and discharging former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in 2024 and sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of several offences, including causing financial loss to the state.

She subsequently challenged the conviction, and the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court’s decision, acquitting and discharging her.

The Attorney-General has since filed an application asking the appellate court to suspend the effect of its judgment pending the determination of a further appeal by the State.

The State argues that allowing the acquittal to take immediate effect could create an opportunity for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu to leave the jurisdiction and potentially frustrate the prosecution of its appeal.

The Attorney-General is therefore asking the Court of Appeal to maintain the existing position until the further appeal is determined.

Today’s ruling is expected to clarify whether the acquittal and discharge will take immediate effect or remain on hold while the State pursues its appeal.
