Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is set to spend the upcoming season in France after agreeing to join Strasbourg on loan.

The 24-year-old is understood to be keen on the move as he looks for regular first-team football. His opportunities at Chelsea have been limited, with Robert Sanchez currently ahead of him in the goalkeeping pecking order.

Strasbourg identified Jorgensen as a suitable option for new manager Hugo Oliveira, who is looking for a goalkeeper capable of contributing to his team’s build-up play.

The French club needed reinforcements in the position following the return of Mike Penders to Chelsea after his loan spell.

Jorgensen had been involved with Chelsea during their pre-season preparations but returned to London last week as discussions over his next move progressed. He is now expected to continue his development in Ligue 1.

The proposed transfer is another example of the close relationship between Chelsea and Strasbourg, who are both controlled by the BlueCo ownership group.

The two clubs have completed several player movements in recent years as part of a broader development strategy.

Strasbourg have also brought in Chelsea academy defender Genesis Antwi on loan this summer.

Several players have moved between the clubs, including Valentin Barco, Emmanuel Emegha and Mamadou Sarr, who joined Strasbourg permanently.

For Jorgensen, the loan represents an opportunity to gain valuable playing experience and establish himself as a more consistent first-choice goalkeeper before returning to Chelsea.
