Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has explained the thinking behind his decision to join Turkish club Bursaspor, saying the team’s long-term ambitions convinced him to make the move.

The 29-year-old recently completed a free transfer to the Turkish second-tier side after ending his spell with Scottish champions Celtic.

Although he played an important role in helping Celtic secure domestic success last season, negotiations over a new contract failed to produce an agreement, paving the way for his departure.

Despite attracting interest from other clubs, Iheanacho opted to sign a three-year contract with Bursaspor, a decision that surprised many football followers given the club’s current status outside Turkey’s top flight.

Speaking after his arrival, the Super Eagles forward revealed that Bursaspor’s vision for the future played a decisive role in his choice.

He said the club’s determination to earn promotion to the Turkish Super Lig and eventually compete in European competitions aligned with his personal ambitions.

Iheanacho expressed his desire to contribute to the project by using his experience to help the team achieve its objectives.

Having played in some of Europe’s biggest leagues, the former Manchester City and Leicester City striker believes he can add quality and leadership to the squad.

The move represents a fresh chapter in the Nigerian international’s career as he looks to rediscover his best form and guide Bursaspor back to the highest level of Turkish football.

Supporters of the club will be hoping Iheanacho’s goals and experience can inspire a successful promotion challenge in the coming season.

His arrival is regarded as one of the most notable signings in the Turkish second division and reflects Bursaspor’s determination to build a competitive squad capable of returning to the country’s football elite.
