Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, following his memorable campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper visited the sector minister after representing Ghana at the global tournament, where Spain emerged as champions.

Asare was included in Ghana’s final squad for the World Cup and made his tournament debut during the Black Stars’ opening group match against Panama.

The former Great Olympics shot-stopper was introduced in the first half after an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi and went on to deliver a composed performance.

The experienced goalkeeper was handed another start in Ghana’s crucial group-stage encounter against England, where he produced a series of impressive saves to help the Black Stars secure a goalless draw against the European giants.

His display against the Three Lions earned widespread praise from fans and football observers, with many applauding his confidence, shot-stopping ability, and leadership on the biggest stage.

Asare also started Ghana’s final Group L match against Croatia before the team exited the competition after a 2-1 defeat.

Although Ghana’s World Cup journey ended at the Round of 32 stage following a loss to Colombia, Asare emerged as one of the standout performers for the national team, earning recognition for his outstanding contribution.

During his visit to Kofi Adams, the goalkeeper expressed his appreciation and support for the minister, who has played a key role in Ghana’s sporting activities and preparations around the Black Stars.

With the World Cup now concluded, Asare and his teammates will shift their focus towards Ghana’s next major assignment — the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside rivals Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia, and The Gambia, with the qualification campaign scheduled to begin in September.

Asare’s emergence as a reliable option in goal provides Ghana with renewed confidence as the team begins preparations for another continental challenge.
