‘Be worried’ — Sammi Awuku warns NDC appointees to ‘cross every i and dot every t’ before change of govt
Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku, has advised officials and political appointees serving under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to discharge their responsibilities with the highest level of diligence, cautioning that they could one day face scrutiny under a future government.
Speaking on UTV, Mr. Awuku said the current political atmosphere should remind public officials that accountability is not exclusive to any one administration.
“I am worried for appointees under President Mahama because they have to cross every i and dot every t,” he said.
He added:
“Just as there is accountability today, there’ll be accountability tomorrow.”
Mr. Awuku further disclosed that, based on his private conversations, he believed some NDC officials and government appointees were already concerned about the prevailing political climate and understood that a future change in government could subject their own actions to similar examination.
His remarks were made in the context of his criticism of the arrest and detention of New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye, which he described as politically troubling.
While stressing that he was not seeking to determine Mr. Aboagye’s guilt or innocence in relation to the alleged GH¢55 million financial irregularities involving the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Mr. Awuku questioned the manner in which the investigation had been conducted. He particularly raised concerns over the decision to arrest Mr. Aboagye despite claims that his legal team had maintained regular communication with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
