Armed Bandit Arrested In Kano With 109 Rounds Of Ammunition
The Kano State Police Command arrested a suspected bandit in Bichi Local Government Area, recovering 109 rounds of live ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, and military uniforms. Command spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the suspect was intercepted following credible intelligence regarding a man in military attire in Rimaye Village.
Acting on a community tip-off on Saturday, officers from the Bichi Division swiftly apprehended the individual and seized the illicit items, which were reportedly intended for delivery to criminal elements.
Collaborating with the Rimawa community, police operatives intercepted 28-year-old Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dala Local Government Area, Kano State. A comprehensive search of his bag uncovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 live rounds, alongside an additional 79 rounds of ammunition. Officers also retrieved two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, desert boots, a suspected fake military identity card, and various personal identification and ATM cards.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being in the area specifically to transport the military gear and ammunition to active bandits operating within the bush. The joint security action highlights the critical impact of community-led intelligence in disrupting criminal supply lines across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended members of the Rimawa community for providing timely information that led to the arrest.
“This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility,” Bakori said.
He said the suspect remained in police custody while investigators were working to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network.
