Popular Nollywood actress Scarlet Gomez has sparked a conversation about the growing tendency to judge kindness and genuine affection.

In a post shared on her Instagram page, she questioned whether society is slowly normalizing harshness while making empathy seem uncool.

Scarlet observed that simple acts of love are often misinterpreted: a man who loves his wife is called a “simp,” a woman who treats her husband well is accused of being manipulated, parents disciplining their children is labelled child abuse, and a father showing affection to his daughter is met with strange assumptions.

She noted that people now judge everyone’s lives through the lens of their own experiences, leaving no room for context.

She wrote:
“Am I alone on dis table? or are we lowkey shaming kindness now? A man genuinely loves his wife? Simp. A woman treats her hubby well? she’s being manipulated. Parents discipline their kids? child abuse. A dad is affectionate with his daughter? People strt making weird assumptions. Feels like we’re judging everyone’s lyf through the lens of our own experiences. Nobody leaves room 4 context anymore, you just Av to pick a side. It’s either , good or bad, red flag or green flag. Meanwhile, empathy is starting to look uncool, and harshness is somehow becoming the default. Abi na just me?”
