Antoine Semenyo becomes first Ghanaian named in PFA Premier League Team of the Year

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has become the first player from his country to be named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.

The recognition follows an impressive campaign with Manchester City, where the 26-year-old established himself as one of the club’s key attacking players.

Semenyo made an immediate impact after joining City, announcing himself in spectacular fashion on his debut in a 10-1 Emirates FA Cup victory over Exeter City on 10 January 2026.

The Ghanaian scored in the 54th minute, set up another goal five minutes earlier and was named Man of the Match following an outstanding display.

He continued his fine form just three days later in Manchester City’s EFL Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Newcastle United.

Semenyo found the net twice in a 2-0 victory, although one of his goals was later ruled out by VAR after Erling Haaland was adjudged to have been offside and to have impeded Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.

The forward’s pace, power and direct attacking style quickly made him a valuable asset for Pep Guardiola’s side, with his performances earning widespread praise throughout the season.

His inclusion in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year is a significant milestone for Ghanaian football and underlines his growing reputation in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

The team is dominated by Arsenal and Manchester City players, with Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya selected behind a defence comprising Gabriel Magalhães, Nico O’Reilly, William Saliba and Jurriën Timber.

Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice and Rayan Cherki make up the midfield, while Semenyo joins Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland and Brentford striker Igor Thiago in attack.
