The Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has announced plans to stage a novelty football match to honour the memory of former chairman and businessman Ifeanyi Ubah as part of activities marking the second anniversary of his passing.

The memorial match is scheduled to take place on August 1 at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi.

According to the association, the event is intended to celebrate Ubah’s remarkable contributions to football development in Anambra State and Nigeria.

During his tenure as chairman of the state football association between 2016 and 2020, Ubah introduced several initiatives aimed at discovering and nurturing young football talents.

One of his most notable projects focused on expanding grassroots football, creating opportunities for aspiring players to showcase their abilities on bigger stages.

His administration also witnessed important milestones, including partnerships with international football organizations and clubs that helped increase the visibility of football in the state.

Under his leadership, FC Ifeanyi Ubah enjoyed one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, winning the 2016 Federation Cup and earning qualification for continental competition.

The memorial fixture forms part of a broader effort by the current ANSFA leadership to preserve the legacy of a man widely regarded as one of the major investors in Nigerian football.

Organisers believe the event will bring together football stakeholders, former players, officials and supporters to celebrate his lasting impact on the sport.

Beyond his achievements as a politician and businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah remains remembered for his passion for football and his commitment to youth development through sports.
