Arsenal suffered a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Emirates Cup final on Sunday, despite producing a spirited second-half comeback at the Emirates Stadium.

Dortmund made a quick start, with Samuele Inacio opening the scoring in the seventh minute after being played through by Felix Nmecha.

Arsenal responded with sustained pressure, with Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard involved in several promising attacking moves.

However, the Gunners were unable to find a way past goalkeeper Alexander Meyer.

The visitors doubled their advantage shortly before the half-hour mark when Konstantinos Karetsas cut inside from the right and curled a superb effort into the top corner.

Arsenal changed the momentum after the break. Ethan Nwaneri reduced the deficit in the 54th minute, finishing from Christos Tzolis’ delivery.

Dortmund restored their two-goal advantage four minutes later through Joane Gadou following a scramble in the Arsenal penalty area.

The hosts refused to give up and were rewarded again when Gyokeres converted from the penalty spot after Tzolis was brought down inside the box.

Arsenal pushed for an equaliser late on, with Gabriel Martinelli even finding the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Although Dortmund won the match 3-2, both sides went ahead with an agreed penalty shootout for additional preparation.

Arsenal prevailed 5-4, with Ethan Nwaneri converting the decisive spot-kick.

Arsenal will next face Como before their Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
