Ghana risks World Cup humiliation by firing Otto Addo just weeks before the tournament

The Ghana Football Association has sent shockwaves through the sporting world by terminating manager Otto Addo exactly 72 days before the 2026 World Cup kicks off. This ruthless decision comes on the heels of a disastrous European tour that saw the Black Stars crumbled in a 5-1 annihilation by Austria and a narrow 2-1 loss to Germany.

Despite boasting world-class talent like Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo and Tottenham star Mohammed Kudus, the national team has looked like a shadow of its former self.

Under Addo’s recent leadership, the team suffered a four game losing streak and failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a failure that clearly exhausted the patience of the country’s football governors.

The 50 year old tactician was in his second stint with the team since March 2024, but his deep roots in German football were not enough to save his job after the Stuttgart defeat. The GFA confirmed the exit was effective immediately and promised to announce a new technical direction soon.

With high stakes matches against Panama, England, and Croatia looming in June, Ghana is now in a frantic race against time to find a leader capable of stabilizing a ship that appears to be sinking right before it reaches the world stage in North America.
