The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a temporary power outage in parts of the Ashanti Region on Monday, August 24, 2026, to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to continue work on a major transmission line upgrade.

The outage will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm and will affect parts of Atonsu, Kuwait, Naachia, Sawua, Aprabon and surrounding areas, according to ECG.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), ECG said the interruption is necessary to allow GRIDCo to continue upgrading the Anwomaso to Ridge Bulk Supply Point (BSP) transmission line.
The project involves replacing the existing 364MVA single-circuit transmission line with a double-circuit system rated at 2 × 488MVA, giving a combined capacity of 976MVA.
The upgrade is expected to more than double the line’s transmission capacity and improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.
The project forms part of efforts by ECG, GRIDCo and the Energy Ministry to address power supply challenges in Kumasi as demand continues to increase.
GRIDCo has also explained that the upgrade of the Anwomaso-Kumasi transmission link is intended to strengthen the connection between the two major Bulk Supply Points serving Kumasi and improve the movement of power to the northern parts of the country.
The project is part of several electricity infrastructure upgrades being undertaken in the Ashanti Region. ECG has apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to customers in the affected areas to bear with the company while the work is carried out.
The company said the temporary outage is necessary to support the ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at providing more reliable power supply to the region.
