The French Football Federation (FFF) has reportedly asked FIFA to review the yellow card shown to Michael Olise during France’s Round of 16 victory over Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Olise, who has been one of France’s standout performers at the tournament, was cautioned after an incident involving Paraguay midfielder Matías Galarza.

French officials believe the Bayern Munich attacker was unfairly booked, arguing that television replays did not justify the referee’s decision.

If the yellow card stands, Olise will enter France’s quarter-final against Morocco at risk of suspension. Another booking in that match would rule him out of a possible semi-final should Les Bleus progress.

The appeal comes shortly after FIFA suspended the one-match ban imposed on United States striker Folarin Balogun, allowing him to feature against Belgium despite receiving a red card in the previous round. That ruling generated widespread debate across the football world.

Although the timing has attracted attention, France have insisted their request is based solely on the circumstances surrounding Olise’s booking and not influenced by the Balogun decision.

Reports indicate FIFA is expected to examine the appeal before France’s last-eight encounter. Football authorities across Europe have also continued to discuss the consistency of disciplinary decisions during the tournament.

France will hope for a favourable outcome as they prepare for a crucial showdown with Morocco, with Olise regarded as a key player in Didier Deschamps’ quest to guide the former champions into the World Cup semi-finals.
