Why are many Ghanaians madly entering into and or, vying for positions in politics? Has politics not become the easiest way of making money in the country, one wonders?

It cannot be far from the truth that any Tom, Dick, and Harry involving themselves in active politics and happening to land a position within a political party or government at the blink of an eye starts acquiring wealth. How come, one may ask? The wealth so acquired is mostly illegal; the fruit of malfeasance, embezzlement, or corruption, so to speak.

If it were not so, members of the same family would not become enemies in the name of politics. When one sees that their chance has come to make money by their affiliation to a particular political party, especially when the party is in government, they will not hesitate to shun their family members perceived to be obstructing them.

For politics becoming lucrative, thus, a machine for churning out money, some Ghanaians will do whatever it takes to get a chunk. If it were not so, we would not be hearing about former political appointees or highly placed public service servants being prosecuted for committing financial crimes against the state.

In Ghana politics, right from the District Chief Executives through Sector Ministers to the President, they all become rich within the short time that they remain in their post. Their wealth has been suspiciously acquired through corruption, embezzlement, and corruption but not their genuine salary. This is an indisputable fact that no sensible and honest Ghanaian can deny.

The political arena is choked because many Ghanaians desiring to make quick buck without genuinely toiling and wiping a sweat for it are parading that corridor.

Some Ghanaians have become agents and assigns for some political parties by being radio phone-in serial callers or hopping from one radio or TV station to another defending the party they have been contracted to, in the hope of making easy money.

Some Ghanaians have elected to insult the opponents of the political party they support all for the fact of making quick money.

A clear example is that young man called Kevin Taylor, a Ghanaian living in the USA that has been doing dirty politics on behalf of the NDC party and government. He has constantly been insulting and tarnishing the image of some personalities in Ghana most of whom are NPP guys, chiefs, and those he sees as not being in the NDC camp. He is doing this all for acquiring easy money.

Should all of us join the political wagon, how can we get people into fields like farming that will help bring about the real development of the nation?

A way must be found to make politics less lucrative to avoid the absurd situation of the nation’s journalists and news presenters becoming biased and reporting biasedly in favour of the party they support but not being professional journalists.

Should we present a hundred politicians in specific positions of authority, well over ninety of them will be found soiling their hands in one way or the other.

Why will those seeking places in politics pay huge sums of bribe if they hoped to enjoy only their salary but not to involve themselves in corrupt activities that will yield them immense wealth within the twinkle of an eye?

Let the laws work in Ghana to wane people off politics with intent to steal.
