We Stopped Counting Because It Was Getting Scary’ – Simi Sanya Opens Up On Wedding Cost

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Content creator and influencer Simi Sanya has shared insights into the staggering cost of her wedding, revealing that she and her husband Femi Dapson, eventually stopped tracking expenses because the figures became overwhelming.

Speaking on Talk Your Talk, she admitted that while many have asked about the total cost, she is not ready to disclose the exact amount.

Simi described the spending as a huge sum, adding that they paused the counting because it was becoming frightening. She noted that regardless of how much guests spray, there is no return on investment.

She also weighed in on the viral debate over spending N80 million on a wedding for 300 guests, explaining that location, vendors, and guest count significantly influence the final cost.

The influencer also shared how they saved money by choosing different locations for their traditional and white weddings, but noted that decoration and logistics remain expensive. She also revealed that while her husband initially preferred a smaller event, she wanted her dream wedding, and he supported her vision.

She said:
“My dear, I can’t say it. If I do say it, they might come pick me up. It is scary, sha.”

“It was a shit lot. At some point, we stopped because it was getting scary. It felt like if we finished doing the maths, we would just be like, ‘Yes, what is the ROI on this?’ How about everybody that ate, and we even gave money for food or something? There is no return on investment. No matter how much they spray you, you are not getting all your money back.”

“I don’t know because my wedding… I was not planning that it should be big. I just wanted my dream wedding. Let me just be happy after my wedding.”

“Apparently, people were saying there was a girl that said N80 million, and people were dropping comments like, ‘What do you mean it is small?’ She was like, ‘For 300 guests, that is too much.’ And I’m like, if she wants to do a big wedding, that N80 million… you can even do two weddings. But results will vary.”

“My traditional wedding was on the Island, and the white wedding was on the Mainland. We saved a lot of money on location. Decoration is still expensive regardless of location. In fact, because they are taking materials a longer distance, they will even add logistics.”

“Hall prices on the Island differ from hall prices on the Mainland. If you want to save money, you can even do your wedding in Ikorodu. But if you’re choosing to do your wedding on the Island, just budget N10 million and above for the hall. That’s already a lot.”

“Location matters. The type of vendors matters. The quantity of food matters. You can decide to serve one plate per guest. Me, I didn’t do that. I wanted my guests to eat and be filled. It just depends on what you’re willing to spend.”

“Some people will have one live band. Me, Olorin mẹ́rin, I had three live bands. It all depends on what you want to do. The same goes for décor. You can spend ₦5 million on décor or even more.”

“He loves me, so he wanted my dream wedding. Anything that makes me happy.”

“My man actually had similar thoughts: a smaller wedding, spending less, a smaller guest list. And I said, ‘Eh! Will my friends not come? Khe, oti o! How were you waiting for an invite? What about my bridesmaids?'”

“Don’t worry, you’re always going to be my bridesmaid.”
