The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the release of Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court, who was abducted from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26.

The command announced the development in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, saying the judge regained his freedom on August 3 after spending about a week in captivity.

According to the police, Justice Bunza’s release has been confirmed by both his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.

The command disclosed that although the kidnappers demanded a ransom during the period of captivity, it maintained its policy against the payment of ransom.

It added that security agencies had intensified efforts to track down those behind the abduction, stressing that investigations were ongoing to ensure the suspects are arrested and prosecuted.

“The command appeals to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the investigation. All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” the statement said.

The police also commended residents and partner security agencies for their cooperation throughout the operation, while reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Earlier, a member of Justice Bunza’s family confirmed that the judge had safely returned home on Monday, describing his release as a moment of gratitude and relief.

“We are filled with joy and gratitude to God for bringing him back safely. It has been a difficult one week, but today our family is celebrating his return,” the family source said.

The relative also appreciated the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies, friends and residents for their prayers, encouragement and support during the judge’s captivity, saying the solidarity shown by many Nigerians helped the family remain hopeful throughout the ordeal.

Justice Bunza was kidnapped from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26, triggering widespread concern within the judiciary and prompting security agencies to launch efforts to secure his release.
