Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially rejoined South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The club confirmed the return of the Nigerian international after he was recently seen training with the squad as preparations intensify under head coach Brandon Truter.

Nwabali’s earlier departure from Chippa United came as a surprise following his impressive displays for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The shot-stopper played a key role in helping the Super Eagles secure a third-place finish, producing several standout performances throughout the tournament.

Announcing his return, Chippa United expressed their excitement in an official statement.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys. After taking time away, Stanley returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to have him back at the club.”

During Nwabali’s absence, goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

His impressive performances helped Chippa United avoid relegation, while he finished the campaign with five clean sheets and was rewarded with the captain’s armband. His form also sparked discussions about a possible call-up to the South African national team.

With Nwabali’s return, competition for the starting goalkeeper position is expected to increase significantly. Reports also suggest that Chippa United have halted plans to sign goalkeeper Brian Bwire and defender Bongani Sam, having secured the services of the Nigerian international once again.

Nwabali had been without a club for several months after leaving Chippa United and was unable to complete a transfer elsewhere. As a result, he missed Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 Unity Cup as well as the international friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.

The 30-year-old began his professional career with Go Round FC before moving to Enyimba in 2020. He later featured for Lobi Stars and Katsina United before initially joining Chippa United in 2022.

His return now offers him another opportunity to revive his club career while strengthening his chances of reclaiming the Super Eagles’ number-one shirt.
