Sporting Braga Complete Signing of Nigerian Defender Adebisi Olamikun From Inter Lagos
Portuguese club Sporting Braga have completed the signing of promising Nigerian defender Adebisi Olamikun from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Inter Lagos.
Inter Lagos confirmed the transfer in a statement shared on the club’s official X account, announcing the departure of the highly rated youngster to the Portuguese outfit.
Reports indicate that the 18-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract with Braga in a deal valued at approximately €50,000.
Olamikun has already arrived in Portugal, where he is expected to begin his development with the club’s youth team before pushing for a place in the senior squad.
The move adds Olamikun to the growing list of Nigerian players to have represented Sporting Braga. According to Transfermarkt, he becomes the eighth Nigerian footballer to join the Portuguese club, following the footsteps of players such as former Super Eagles defender and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Elderson Echiejile.
Founded in 1921, Sporting Braga have established themselves as one of Portugal’s leading clubs. Nicknamed “Os Arsenalistas” because of their red-and-white kit, which resembles that of English Premier League side Arsenal, Braga have become regular contenders in domestic and European competitions.
The club has played its home matches at the Estádio Municipal de Braga since 2003, after moving from the Estádio 1º de Maio, which now serves as the home ground for the reserve team.
Braga have enjoyed sustained success over the past two decades, winning multiple domestic titles, including the Portuguese Cup and Portuguese League Cup. They also lifted the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2008, becoming the only Portuguese club to win the competition, before reaching the UEFA Europa League final in 2011.
The Portuguese side also made history by qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time during the 2010-11 season after finishing second in the Primeira Liga and overcoming Celtic and Sevilla in the qualifying rounds.
For Olamikun, the transfer represents a significant step in his career as he looks to develop in European football and eventually establish himself at Braga’s first-team level.
