Valencia striker Umar Sadiq has been ruled out of the club’s pre-season tour of England after picking up a hamstring injury during preparations for the new campaign.

The Nigerian international sustained the setback in a pre-season friendly against Castellón, where he was forced off after suffering a minor muscle tear.

Following medical assessments, Valencia’s coaching and medical teams decided not to include the 29-year-old in the travelling squad, opting instead to focus on his recovery.

Rather than joining his teammates in England, Sadiq has remained at the club’s training facilities in Paterna, where he is undergoing rehabilitation under close medical supervision.

Reports suggest the injury is not considered severe, with optimism that the forward could return to full training within the next couple of weeks if his rehabilitation progresses well.

The decision to keep Sadiq in Spain is aimed at ensuring he is fully fit for the start of the 2026/27 La Liga season. Valencia are hopeful the Super Eagles striker will be available for their league opener against Celta Vigo, avoiding any long-term disruption to their attacking plans.

While Sadiq continues his recovery, Valencia have carried on with their pre-season schedule in England before returning home to complete preparations ahead of the new campaign.

Away from club football, questions also remain over Sadiq’s international future. The striker has not featured for Nigeria since late 2024 and has recently admitted he is weighing up his future with the Super Eagles after the country’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite speculation surrounding his absence from recent national team squads, Sadiq has insisted there are no issues between him and head coach Eric Chelle, suggesting that competition for places and tactical decisions have influenced his omission.

He is expected to make a decision on his international future after the start of the new season.
