Radamel Falcao is poised to begin a new chapter in football, with reports indicating that the former Chelsea and Manchester United forward is close to joining Colombia’s national team coaching staff as an assistant manager.

The 40-year-old recently became a free agent after ending his two-year spell with Colombian club Millonarios, where he concluded the playing career that saw him feature for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Rather than continuing as a player, Falcao now appears ready to transition into coaching at the international level.

According to reports, the Colombian Football Federation wants the legendary striker to work alongside head coach Néstor Lorenzo.

The assistant manager’s role became vacant following the departure of Luis Amaranto Perea, who accepted a managerial position with Colombian side Independiente Medellín.

Falcao’s appointment would bring a wealth of experience to the national team setup. Widely regarded as one of Colombia’s greatest footballers, he remains the country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 36 goals in 104 international appearances. His influence on Colombian football has made him a respected figure both on and off the pitch.

During his playing career, Falcao enjoyed remarkable success with clubs including FC Porto, Atlético Madrid, and AS Monaco, where he established himself as one of the world’s most clinical strikers.

He also had spells in the Premier League with Chelsea and Manchester United before returning to Colombia.

If confirmed, the move would mark Falcao’s first major coaching role and provide him with the opportunity to help shape the next generation of Colombian internationals as they prepare for future international competitions.
