Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has advised members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who aspire to pursue political leadership to remain vigilant and seek spiritual guidance, describing politics as a demanding undertaking that requires more than physical effort.

Addressing newly elected NPP constituency executives following the party’s constituency executive elections, Mr. Afenyo-Markin cautioned party members against entering politics without spiritual preparedness.

According to him, politics is not merely a physical contest but also a spiritual one.

“I repeat one more time. Politics is a spiritual exercise; it’s not for the naked eye. Call on your God and He will come to your aid at your crossroads,” he said.

Speaking to the newly elected executives, Osahen Afenyo-Markin encouraged them to remain steadfast, rely on their faith, and seek divine guidance as they take up leadership responsibilities within the party.

He reminded them that political leadership comes with significant challenges and urged them to stay grounded in their beliefs as they work to strengthen the NPP ahead of future elections.

The NPP recently conducted constituency executive elections across its 276 constituencies to elect new party leaders.

While the polls were generally peaceful in most parts of the country, a few constituencies recorded incidents of violence and controversy.

One of the major incidents occurred in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency in the Ashanti Region, where media personality and parliamentary hopeful Okatakyie Afrifa was arrested by police over his alleged involvement in disrupting the electoral process.

Following the elections, the NPP nullified the results in three constituencies—Bantama, Adansi Asokwa, and Afigya Sekyere East.

In a statement, the party explained that the elections in the affected constituencies were conducted in “flagrant disregard of Party directives, the rules and regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections and, where applicable, subsisting court orders.”

The party has indicated that fresh dates will be announced for elections in the affected constituencies.
