Police arrest 12-year-old boy, driver over viral video showing minor driving articulated truck

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 12-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man believed to be the driver of a DAF XF 105 articulated truck after a video showing the child driving the heavy-duty vehicle circulated widely on social media.
The arrests followed public concerns over the footage, which allegedly showed the minor behind the wheel of the truck, sparking discussions about road safety and compliance with regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles.
According to the Police, both suspects are currently in the custody of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Accra, assisting with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The vehicle involved has been identified as a DAF XF 105 articulated truck with registration number GS 3097-20.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Saturday, August 1, the Police Service cautioned parents, guardians and vehicle owners against allowing children or individuals without valid licences to operate motor vehicles, especially heavy-duty trucks.
The Service warned that such acts pose serious risks to the lives of road users and constitute breaches of the Road Traffic Act.
The Police also encouraged members of the public to report similar incidents and support efforts aimed at promoting responsible driving and improving road safety across the country.
