Osimhen Injury Update: Galatasaray Confirm Groin Strain

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen picked up a groin injury during Friday’s Turkish Super Lig fixture against Istanbul Başakşehir, casting doubt over his participation in the club’s upcoming Champions League commitments.

The forward had to be withdrawn in the 33rd minute, making way for Baris Yilmaz, but not before he had already made his mark on the game by opening the scoring in what would finish as a 3-2 win for the Yellow and Reds.

In an official statement released through the club’s website, Galatasaray revealed that both Osimhen and midfielder Mario Lemina underwent detailed medical assessments, including MRI scans, after showing signs of discomfort in the same muscle group during the match.

The club specifically pointed to strain in the right adductor region for both players.

Osimhen has already begun treatment aimed at managing the injury, though his participation in Galatasaray’s Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon next Tuesday now hangs in the balance.

The club has yet to provide a definitive timeline for his return, leaving fans and coaching staff to monitor his recovery closely in the coming days.

The injury comes at an inconvenient time for Galatasaray, given the importance of continental fixtures on their calendar, and adds an element of uncertainty to their preparations as they look to build on their domestic form heading into a crucial European test.
