Bournemouth once again let a commanding lead slip, as Newcastle United battled back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw at St James’ Park thanks to a stoppage-time-esque finish from substitute Jacob Ramsey.

Marco Rose’s side looked well on course to secure their first win under his management after Marcus Tavernier converted early following a deflected effort, before Malick Thiaw turned a Bournemouth cross into his own net to double the visitors’ advantage.

However, Newcastle responded almost immediately, with Harvey Barnes curling home a brilliant strike just seconds after the restart following Bournemouth’s second goal to cut the deficit in half.

The comeback was completed late on when Ramsey, introduced from the bench, slotted a composed finish into the bottom corner in the 88th minute to level the score and extend Newcastle’s unbeaten run under new boss Matthias Jaissle.

Despite dominating for large periods and outshooting their hosts by a considerable margin, Bournemouth were left to rue yet another late collapse, having now surrendered seven points from winning positions across their opening three fixtures this season, a run that has denied them a single victory despite scoring first in each match.

Jaissle admitted his side’s first-half performance fell below expectations but praised their resilience in fighting back. Rose, meanwhile, expressed frustration at his team’s inability to see out matches, acknowledging that Bournemouth’s defensive lapses continue to undo strong attacking displays.

The draw also brought a promising full debut for Newcastle’s £51million signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who showed flashes of quality after coming on in the second half.
