NPP destroyed the Ghanaian economy long before the Russian invasion of Ukraine – Wonder Madilo

The persistent narrative that external global shocks are solely responsible for Ghana’s financial instability has been challenged by Wonder Madilo of the National Democratic Congress.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, the communications specialist argued that the New Patriotic Party’s management of the economy had already resulted in significant fragility prior to the 2022 outbreak of the Russia Ukraine war.

Madilo characterized the nation’s previous economic state as being in a mess, citing high inflation and volatile fuel prices as evidence of internal structural failures rather than unavoidable global crises.

His remarks serve as a sharp rebuttal to NPP communicators who have recently warned the current administration against using Middle Eastern tensions as a shield for future economic downturns.

According to Madilo, the attempt to draw parallels between current geopolitical conflicts and the 2022 invasion is a flawed strategy intended to distract from historical mismanagement. While he acknowledged that escalating military tensions in the Middle East could indeed pose new risks to the global market, he maintained that the fundamental weaknesses of the Ghanaian economy were firmly established by the NPP’s policy decisions years ago.

The NDC representative concluded that the government must now focus on building genuine resilience instead of overstating the impact of external shocks to justify domestic hardship.
