The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has called on clubs across the country to strengthen their online presence as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season, emphasizing that digital growth is now a key part of modern football administration.

League officials believe that clubs with poor digital visibility could struggle to attract commercial partners and sponsorship deals in an increasingly technology-driven sports industry.

The message was delivered during a digital marketing seminar held in Enugu, where club representatives were encouraged to invest in professional websites and active online engagement.

NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owunmi stressed that football clubs must adapt to changing fan habits, particularly among younger supporters who rely heavily on digital platforms for news, match updates and interaction with their favorite teams.

To encourage compliance, Owunmi announced a ₦100,000 incentive for any club that can present a fully functional website containing detailed information from the recently concluded season.

The required content includes player profiles, match statistics, goal records, attendance figures and other relevant club data.

According to the league, maintaining a strong digital identity is no longer optional but essential for improving fan engagement, creating business opportunities and increasing revenue through sponsorships and online commerce.

The NPFL also revealed plans to introduce performance standards that will measure each club’s digital development.

These benchmarks will focus on website quality, consistency of online content and social media activity.

The initiative reflects the league’s ambition to modernize Nigerian club football by encouraging teams to embrace technology and improve communication with supporters while positioning themselves for greater commercial success in the years ahead.
