NPFL Introduces Marketing and Media Training for Clubs Before New Season

By Okiki Oluwasegun

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has unveiled plans to strengthen the commercial and promotional capacity of its clubs by organizing a compulsory workshop ahead of the 2026/27 season.

According to the league body, the programme will focus on improving marketing strategies, commercial development, media relations and brand management across all participating clubs.

The initiative forms part of the NPFL’s broader efforts to enhance the professionalism and visibility of the domestic league.

Each club has been instructed to nominate two representatives to attend the three-day workshop, which will take place in Enugu from July 27 to July 29.

The sessions are expected to provide club officials with practical knowledge on attracting sponsorships, improving fan engagement and maximizing commercial opportunities.

The workshop also aims to help clubs develop stronger communication strategies, ensuring they can better connect with supporters, partners and the wider football community through traditional and digital media platforms.

With the new league season set to begin next month, the NPFL believes the training will equip clubs with the necessary skills to operate more efficiently both on and off the pitch.

Improving the commercial appeal of the league has remained a key objective in recent years as organizers seek to increase revenue, attract more investors and expand the competition’s audience.

Beyond football operations, the initiative highlights the growing importance of business management in modern sports.

Clubs are increasingly expected to build sustainable brands capable of generating income through sponsorship, merchandising and media exposure.

The workshop represents another step in the NPFL’s drive to modernize Nigerian club football and create a more competitive, commercially attractive league ahead of the upcoming campaign.
