Nigerian Fans Ranked Among Top Digital Participants in SuperSport’s World Cup Coverage
Nigeria emerged as one of the most active fan bases in SuperSport’s digital coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to figures released by the broadcaster following the tournament’s conclusion.
Data shared by SuperSport revealed that Nigerian users made up 21.2 per cent of those registered on its Predictor platform, placing the country second only to South Africa, which led with 29.5 per cent of participants.
The World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico between June 11 and July 19, culminated in Spain’s narrow 1-0 victory over Argentina in the championship match held in New Jersey.
This strong Nigerian engagement contributed to an impressive overall digital performance for SuperSport, which logged 19.1 billion social media impressions alongside 677 million video views throughout its broadcast territories.
The company noted that its approach went well beyond traditional TV coverage, leaning on interactive tools, storytelling in local languages, and content from African creators to sustain fan interest across the continent.
Among the standout figures, the Predictor platform attracted over 175,000 registered users who collectively submitted more than 3.8 million predictions, while SuperSport’s YouTube and TikTok output numbering 817 videos drove the bulk of its video engagement.
The broadcaster also highlighted its website traffic and DStv Stream integration, both of which saw substantial activity during the tournament window.
Notably, Pidgin-language commentary emerged as a particular fan favourite, sparking the most organic conversation on social media among all commentary styles offered.
