The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 70-year-old man, Abdulfatai Oyelaran, and several other suspects in a nationwide crackdown that led to the seizure of large quantities of illicit drugs, including more than 1.5 million opioid pills, cocaine, methamphetamine and over 4.6 tonnes of cannabis.

The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, detailing arrests and seizures recorded across several states between Monday, August 10, and Friday, August 14, 2026.

In Oyo State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway arrested Oyelaran, 70, alongside 50-year-old Abdulrauf Ajadi on Wednesday, August 12.

The suspects were intercepted in a Toyota Sienna vehicle marked FFA-115KA, from which officers recovered 52,000 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 6,000 ampoules of tramadol injection.

In Kwara State, two suspects, Abubakar Adamu, 50, and Bilyaminu Nuhu, 30, were arrested at the Kam Wire area of Ilorin on Thursday, August 13.

The duo were allegedly found with 55.96kg of skunk concealed in a truck marked DKA 350 XL.

In another major seizure, NDLEA operatives intercepted two suspects, Osaro Ikpoba, 43, and Samuel Godbless, 18, along the Onitsha/Asaba Expressway.

Recovered from them were 124,100 pills of tramadol, 786 bottles of codeine syrup, 2,598 tablets of rohypnol, 4,800 tablets of diazepam, 470 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 200 ampoules of tramadol injection.

Also in Delta State, operatives arrested 50-year-old Emeka Tony along the Kwale/Ozoro Expressway on Wednesday, August 12.

A total of 1,244 pieces of cartridges and N8 million in cash were recovered from him, according to the agency.

In Plateau State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a Toyota Corolla, marked MKD 341 EA, along the Riyom/Jos Road, leading to the arrest of a suspect, Kasum Sherif.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 239,490 capsules of Tramaforce, a brand of tramadol.

Kano State also recorded a series of major seizures.

Six suspects—Okodili Ibeabuchi, 60; Onyeka Vincent, 47; Nwanko Wisdom, 36; Success Chigozie, 30; Emmanuel Jude, 27; and Chinedu Peter, 39—were arrested on Monday, August 10, during a patrol along the Zaria-Kano Road.

NDLEA said large consignments of opioids were recovered from the suspects, including 728,958 pills of tramadol, rohypnol and other substances, as well as 360 grams of cocaine, 99.8 grams of methamphetamine, 50 bottles of codeine syrup and 2.7kg of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis.

In a separate operation in Kano, NDLEA operatives raided the Zawaciki Gida Dubu area of Kumbotso Local Government Area on Friday, August 14.

The operation led to the arrest of Mustapha Iliya, 30, and Abdulwahab Abdulrashid, 24, and the recovery of 171 blocks of skunk weighing 106.8kg.

Meanwhile, in Edo State, NDLEA operatives destroyed 4,628.9775kg of skunk recovered from two cannabis farms measuring 1.851591 hectares in the Ugboku/Igbanke forest, Orhionmwon Local Government Area.

A 40-year-old suspect, Agholor Elebojie, was arrested at one of the farms during the raid on Wednesday, August 12.

Another suspect, Kingsley Anigala, 28, was arrested during a raid on drug joints in the Oluku area of Benin City on Friday, August 14.

NDLEA said Anigala was found with 25.857kg of Loud and 93 grams of methamphetamine.

Commending the officers, men and women of the MMIA, Lagos, Kano, Kwara, Edo, Plateau, Oyo and Delta Commands for the arrests and seizures, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), also praised personnel across the country.

Marwa said the agency’s commands had continued to pursue a balance between drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts in the ongoing campaign against illicit drugs.
