Major League Soccer (MLS) has opened an investigation into Inter Miami following allegations of tampering surrounding the club’s acquisition of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

The experienced midfielder was officially unveiled by Inter Miami after completing a free transfer, signing a contract that runs through the end of next season with an option for an extension.

However, shortly after confirming the deal, MLS announced it had launched a review into the circumstances that led to the transfer.

At the center of the investigation is the league’s discovery rights system, a rule unique to MLS that grants clubs priority in negotiating with certain players.

Reports indicate that LA Galaxy initially held the discovery rights to Casemiro before Inter Miami secured them through an agreement.

The league is now examining whether the proper procedures were followed before the transfer was completed.

In a statement, MLS confirmed it is gathering all relevant information and will not provide further details until the review has been concluded.

While Inter Miami and LA Galaxy reportedly reached an agreement over the player’s discovery rights, the league said the full terms of that arrangement will remain undisclosed until the investigation is complete.

The inquiry places Inter Miami under renewed scrutiny, having previously faced sanctions for breaching MLS financial regulations.

The club has been penalized in the past over salary reporting and roster compliance issues involving several players.
