Man United Forced to Alter Third Kit After UEFA Rule Clash
Manchester United will be required to make an adjustment to their newly launched third kit before wearing it in Champions League fixtures this season, following a clash with UEFA’s sponsorship regulations.
The club’s latest Adidas third strip features a stripped-back version of principal sponsor Snapdragon’s branding, displaying only the company’s fireball emblem without any accompanying text.
This minimalist design, however, runs into conflict with UEFA rules, which mandate that clubs maintain consistent sponsor branding across all kits registered for European competition.
As a result, United will need to add the full “Snapdragon” wordmark beneath the emblem whenever the third kit is worn in Champions League matches this season, bringing it in line with the branding already present on the club’s home and away shirts.
Confirming the change in an official statement, the club explained that while the third kit can be worn in its original form across domestic competitions, UEFA’s requirement for uniform sponsor representation across all kits used in the tournament makes the wordmark addition necessary for any European fixtures.
The third kit, distinguished by its ivory base and red trim, has already made its on-pitch debut, having been worn during United’s preseason friendly against AC Milan on August 15.
That outing ended in disappointment for the Premier League club, who suffered a 4-2 defeat at the Tarczynski Arena in Poland.
With the new campaign fast approaching, United will now have to ensure the amended kit is ready in time for their opening Champions League assignments, adding a logistical wrinkle to preparations already underway ahead of the season.
