The yesteryears blockbuster movie series “The Rich Also Cry”, is actually coming to reality, Nigerian iconic Nollywood movies producer, Kunle Afolayan has raised alam to the public on his huge struggles to keep body and soul together at this current peak Nigeria’s economic downturn.
“I spent ₦11m on diesel in just 4-5 weeks. I can’t cope again”, the filmmaker cries out Afolayan, a multiple awards winning filmmaker lamented over the skyrocketing cost of diesel, which he described as unsustainable for him and his daily business operations in a video clip he posted online.
In the video, he revealed that in his film village, known as KAP Village Enterprise, he spents a total of ₦11 million on diesel in just 4 to 5 weeks, despite having solar power
installed.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with ₦1,500 per liter for diesel. In one of the businesses that I run, KAP Village, I spent ₦11 million in just 4 to 5 weeks on diesel,” he bitterly complained.
Afolayan added that even with solar power, expenses remain high: “We have solar power but we still spend up to that. In Lagos, we still spend a lot even though we have solar power.”
He said with grief, that the recent fuel price hike from ₦1,000 to over ₦1,500 per liter has made it harder to manage business costs, especially when diesel is bought on credit and repaid over time.
Afolayan, therein, appealed to well -to-do Nigerian, public and private organizations to come to his aid with a loan for his business not to sink. “Please, we need loan to upgrade our solar power,” he declared, while appealing to financial institutions and government agencies to provide financial support that would help businesses to reduce total unsustainable reliance on expensive diesel and resort to alternative affordable business operations.
