Chelsea produced an entertaining attacking display to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers 6-4 in a dramatic Sydney Super Cup clash on Tuesday, with new signing João Pedro stealing the spotlight by scoring a second-half hat-trick.

The Premier League side had to come from behind several times before eventually overpowering their Australian opponents in a match packed with goals, chances, and attacking football.

Chelsea struck first as Dastan Satpaev found the net in the sixth minute after being set up by Ryan Kavuma-McQueen.

However, the Wanderers responded quickly through Alexandros Pantazopoulos, who equalized in the 14th minute following an assist from Brandon Borrello.

The hosts continued to trouble Chelsea’s defense and took the lead in the 32nd minute when Aydan Hammond finished off a move created by Alex Gersbach.

Chelsea responded before the break, with Dário Essugo restoring parity in the 38th minute after connecting with a pass from Reggie Walsh, ensuring the teams went into halftime level at 2-2.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso made several changes after the interval, introducing a number of first-team stars, including Cole Palmer, Jamie Gittens, Estevão, João Pedro, and Levi Colwill, a move that transformed the visitors’ attacking intensity.

Jamie Gittens fired Chelsea back in front in the 66th minute after receiving a well-timed assist from João Pedro.

The Wanderers refused to surrender and equalized again in the 78th minute when substitute Awan Lual scored after being picked out by Jarrod Carluccio, making it 4-4.

From that point, Chelsea took complete control. João Pedro scored his first goal in the 80th minute before adding another five minutes later from a Cole Palmer assist.

The Brazilian completed his hat-trick in the 89th minute to cap an outstanding individual performance and seal an exciting 6-4 victory.

The statistics reflected Chelsea’s attacking dominance. The Blues enjoyed 58 percent possession, completed 417 of 492 passes, and registered 25 shots compared to the Wanderers’ 19.

Chelsea also managed eight shots on target and forced seven saves from the opposition goalkeeper, while winning seven corner kicks.

Despite conceding four goals, Chelsea’s attacking depth proved decisive, particularly after the second-half substitutions injected fresh energy into the team.

João Pedro’s clinical finishing, combined with strong performances from Gittens and Essugo, will give the coaching staff plenty of positives ahead of the new campaign.

For Western Sydney Wanderers, the performance showcased resilience and attacking quality despite the defeat.

The Australian side matched Chelsea for long periods and created numerous scoring opportunities, but they were ultimately unable to contain the Premier League club’s firepower in the closing stages.

Chelsea will take confidence from the thrilling victory as preparations for the upcoming season continue, while the Sydney Super Cup final provided fans with one of the most entertaining pre-season fixtures of the summer.
