The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars and nomination documents of Nyesom Wike-led faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Onor Sandy Ojang, for the 2027 general election.

The documents, contained in Form EC9 and displayed by the electoral commission in line with the Electoral Act 2026, provide details of Ojang’s educational qualifications, work history and sworn declaration submitted to support his nomination.

According to the documents, Ojang was born on February 14, 1966, in Ikom, Cross River State.

The nomination papers show that he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1975, his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1981, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 1993.

In the section detailing his work experience, Ojang stated that he worked at the University of Calabar from 1988 to 2019, indicating that he left the institution to pursue politics.

INEC had earlier commenced the publication of the personal particulars of presidential and National Assembly candidates in accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires the commission to make candidates’ nomination documents available for public scrutiny within 21 days of receipt.

Explaining the exercise, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the publication was in line with the commission’s approved timetable for the 2027 general election.

“The publication of the personal particulars of the presidential and National Assembly candidates tomorrow is item five. Those for governorship and state assembly candidates will be published on August 29,” Haruna said.

Meanwhile, the publication of the presidential candidate of Wike’s PDP faction has affirmed that INEC currently recognises that faction for the purpose of the ongoing electoral process.

The opposition party has been embroiled in a protracted leadership crisis, with two rival factions laying claim to the party’s leadership. Apart from the Wike-led faction, the Kabiru Turaki-led group has also asserted control of the party. The Turaki faction equally sold nomination forms and conducted a parallel screening exercise for aspirants seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On Thursday, the Turaki camp had claimed that it submitted the name of the former president Goodluck Jonathan to the electoral commission as its presidential candidate.

Ini Ememobong, spokesperson for the Turaki-led PDP, said the submission was made manually following INEC’s refusal to provide the group with access codes to upload Jonathan’s name electronically.

He said the names of candidates for other elective positions, including the national assembly and state houses of assembly for the 2027 elections, were also filed with the electoral umpire.

Ememobong added that the submission was “duly acknowledged” by INEC.

There is no statement from the camp on the latest development as of the time of filing this report.
