IGP Deploys New Police Commissioner To Oversee Osun Guber Election
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed CP Samuel Erale Etaifo to Osun State as the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The Nigeria Police Force disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, saying the deployment was part of the Force’s comprehensive strategy to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process in the state.
According to the statement, Etaifo will oversee and coordinate election security operations across Osun State in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
He is also expected to coordinate measures aimed at safeguarding voters, election officials and electoral materials before, during and after the governorship poll.
The police, however, clarified that the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, remains in charge of the state command and will continue to supervise routine policing activities.
Gotan will also provide the necessary administrative and operational support to the newly deployed election police commissioner, the statement said.
The Force further directed all personnel deployed for election duties to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and neutrality while strictly complying with the law and the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty.
Disu also urged members of the public, political actors and other stakeholders to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the electoral process.
The IGP called for the cooperation of all stakeholders with security agencies to ensure a safe, credible and successful governorship election in Osun State.
